Scratch Board Patterns and Texture Exploration

In this video, Scratch back texture exploration, we explore a scratch back surface while creating texture and patterns.

We use metal scratch tools on black scratch card to create a variety of different textures and patterns. We begin by drawing circles over our surface which will be the areas in which we explore the use of our tools in creating a range of scratch back patterns.

Using the different tools we scratch into our card while staying within the area of our drawn out circles. We try techniques such as hatching, cross hatching, stippling and scratching in different lines that vary in thickness and length. We create these different effects within our drawn circles which creates a pattern within the circles while the circles themselves create patterns on the scratch card.

By exploring the shapes and thicknesses of the scratch tools, we create a variety of different patterns and tonal effects within our work.
