Wet Felting

Term: 1 Year: 2018

Year 3 students from Firbank Grammar Turner House incorporated the classroom Unit of Inquiry ‘Earth is a unique planet within a complex solar system’ into the Art program during Term 3.

Students were introduced to a new skill called ‘wet felting’….the process of combining layers of wool fibres by matting, condensing and pressing fibres together, using friction.

The students chose colours that reflected ‘earth’ or ‘outer space’ and followed step by step instructions to create a piece of felt. They then used felt sheets to create extra pieces such as planets, earth and even an astronaut that they then hand sewed onto their wet felted piece. The finished pieces look ‘out of this world’!!
