Visual Art Work & Rainforest
Term: 4 Year: 2006
Visual Art Work
Year One and two students were inspired to create these pictures by the work of Russian artist Kandinsky who loved
to use circles and colour.
They mixed their own paint using primary colours and white, and then worked bright coloured pastel into the picture
to create contrast with the black background.
In response to Kandinsky’s “Study with colour-squares with concentric circles” 1913, students also
worked with a variety of media to explore this theme.
Rainforest
Year Three and Four have been studying the rainforest as an endangered environment, exploring this theme visually
in art sessions.
Inspired by the work of illustrator Jeannie Baker, they designed rainforest environments to be created in relief
as a three dimensional work.
These were painted with an emphasis on the direction of light and the use of contrast. The students mixed their own
greens and browns from primary colours. Using a light skin colour to vary tone.
