Venetian-Inspired Masks
Term: 1 Year: 2020
Venetian-Inspired Masks
We started the unit by looking at some Venetian masks. Students then had to fill in a See, Think, wonder sheet to fill about masks. After discussing the answers together, they glued the sheet in their Visual Art diaries. I showed students an example of a mask that they’re making and modelled how to divide a page into the Visual Art diary to sketch a model of a mask including colours and to list all materials that they were going to use.
Each student was then given a pre-prepared egg carton mask shape which they painted using the paint blocks. Some students even added lines and patterns. We revisited a few paper manipulation techniques such as concertina fold, fringing and curling. Students added all the extra details with feathers and paper.
