The year six students were given a short discussion on the ancient Chinese custom of foot binding that began in
the tenth century and abolished in 1911 when China became a republic.

The students were then encouraged to sketch their own interpretations of a pair of traditional foot-binding shoes.
Their inspiration was drawn from looking at the traditional shoes and a pair that I had brought back from China.

The students explored the art elements of lines, form, colours and shape to produce their shoes.
