Storm Paintings

Term: 1 Year: 2012

The students in Grades Three and Four were shown examples of watercolour painting, including a Chinese watercolour of horses galloping through a fierce snow storm.

They discussed how watercolours could express drama, in particular wild weather.

They experimented with a range of colours and brush strokes, aiming for a wild, stormy painting.  Some students sparingly used oil pastel before painting: white for lightning, or black for trees, bending in the wind.

Many of the works were completed quite quickly, with passionate strokes and bold use of colour.
