We are Unique Self-Portraits

Students began their ‘Who we are’ Unit of Inquiry in Art by being presented with a sheet of many different faces with a variety of features, tones and characteristics

They were asked to discuss what they thought ‘unique’ might mean and how they could relate this word to themselves. Through their investigation of the Central Idea, ‘People are unique and have different characteristics’, students were able to individually look closely at each feature of their face and represent it through a different material and process over many weeks. Looking at the finer details of their characteristics, allowed them to look more closely at the elements and principles of art, in particular, shape, tone, form, color and scale.

Once completed, the features were combined to portray a unique self-portrait.
