Reflections
Term: 4 Year: 2010
We looked at the artworks and photos of sea scapes and reflections. I took some inspiration from the
landscape around Wellington and Queenstown where you can see the buildings reflected on the water.
There was a great deal of discussion about reflections and how we could produce them in a painting.
Our first activity was to make “butterfly prints” as we needed a symmetrical print. The
students chose their favourite one with the colours and effects that they required. The print was split
and pasted on a blue surface. The top half represents mountains and the bottom half represents the sea.
A collage was created on the top using textured and glossy papers.
The students gained a greater understanding of colour mixing and symmetry as well as an appreciation of
semi abstract art.
