Intaglio Etching Using Perspex

Term: 1 Year: 2019

Students were required to create a Final A4 Artwork using intaglio etching of an animal and a mono print background. They printed their background using found objects. And then hand-coloured their print.

What is Intaglio Etching?
Intaglio is the family of printing and printmaking techniques in which the image is incised into a surface and the incised line or sunken area holds the ink. It is the direct opposite of a relief print.

The Intaglio Process:
Scratch the surface. Use a compass point or sharp pointed object to trace your design onto the
Scrape on the inks. With paper towel rub carefully in the areas you want to show the print, carefully wipe away areas that you want clean.
Soak a piece of heavy paper and then blot excess water.
Lay the blotted paper on top of the acrylic. Put newsprint on top and bottom. Roll through the press.
