Painted Bird Collage

Painted Bird Collage using acrylic paint, grey lead and collage papers

Year 8 students undertook a Painted Bird Collage Unit whereby students each selected a bird photograph of their choosing to use as inspiration to individually work from. Using their own individual artistic skills in observational drawing, students worked with grey lead graphite pencils onto drawing paper. The students worked on a small A5 size piece of paper giving the works a small and intimate scale and perspective. After this, they used their personal colour mixing acrylic painting skills to carefully render the bird in colour. The final stage of the project requires students to add collaged elements of decorative paper to enhance the composition. When complete they created a collage background.
