Moulding & Casting Safety: Always wear a mask, gloves, eye protection and work in a well ventilated area. Make sure you are working on a table covered with a plastic sheet to prevent damage. Step-by-Step: Preparing a Silicone Mould for Casting Step One Create a flat backed object using the Klean Clay, or select an object with a flat side. NB: Glossy objects will cast a glossy finish, matt objects will cast a matt finish. Step Two Super Glue (390) your object onto a wooden board so that the Silicone Moulding Rubber mixture does not leak under the object. If necessary use more of the Klean Clay to fill in any gaps. Step Three Roll out a slab of Klean Clay to prepare a wall which will surround your object and contain the Silicone Moulding Rubber mixture. NB: This wall needs straight edges, must be 1cm thick, 1cm taller than the highest point of your object, and must sit 6–10mm away from your object. Step Four Use more Klean Clay to seal the wall to the board to prevent leakage. Step Five Silicone Moulding Rubber is a two part solution, Part A – Silicone Moulding Rubber and Part B – Slow Cure Catalyst. Both parts need to be individually weighed before mixing. Mixing Ratio: Part A 100g to Part B 3g Weigh out the required quantity of Part A. Calculate 3% of this weight. This equals the amount of Part B that is required. Mix together. Step Six In a slow thin stream, pour mixture into one corner of the mould to reduce air bubbles. Air bubbles can get stuck in intricate features of your object and ruin your mould. Step Seven Fill your mould until the silicone is 6mm above your object. This can be tested using a popstick. Leave to set until silicone is firm (2 hours minimum). Step Eight When set, gently peel away the Klean Clay from around your mould. Then pull the silicon off the board and release your object from the mould. You may need to trim excess silicone from your mould. Step Nine You are now ready to Cast, see Casting below Step-by-Step: Casting from a Silicone Mould Step One Mix equal parts Solid Cast 660 of A & B. This is a white plastic. Step Two Add colour using the Dynamic Pigment Pastes or Transparent Dyes as desired. Step Three Use a flat bottomed stick to stir well. Ensure all the corners of the container are reached. Step Four Pour slowly into the mould. NB: You only have a short amount of working time to do this. Step Five Leave the object to set for about 20mins. Setting times may vary based on the dyes added. NB: Object heats up & releases steam when it is setting. Step Six When the object has set, release from the mould. The object can be sanded if required.
