Line Bug Paintings

During a Line Bug Painting unit which explored line, students studied a variety of different images of bugs and discussed the amazing patterns and lines that exist naturally in the animal world as well as in nature. They then each drew their own bug with a permanent marker and used repeated line and pattern to fill each shape and add interest to their drawing. Finally they used diluted food colour to carefully paint both the bug and the background.

Line is a mark made using a drawing tool or brush. There are many types of lines: thick, thin, horizontal, vertical, zigzag, diagonal, curly, curved, spiral, etc. and are often very expressive.

Bugs and insects play an essential role in the web of life. They are an amazingly diverse group of animals that have conquered almost every environment on earth.

It’s fun to paint, explore, cook and have fun with food colouring. There is so much you can do that is simple, but fun at the same time with younger students.

The Zart Student Gallery is committed to the exhibition of works by a cross-section of students, varying age, year level and diversity of needs.

We at Zart believe that success looks different for every child.
