Indigenous art styles & techniques have inspired these artworks by Grades 3 & 4 students.

How To:

•Firstly, drawings of indigenous animal skeletons were studied, practised and completed on black and
white scratch-art paper.

•A story was then written about the animal using symbols to replace the nouns.

•Using oil pastels, the symbols were placed in sequential borders around the skeleton drawing and
pointillist dots filled the negative spaces.

•Students used their hands as a stencil for the ‘Rock Art’ prints in white acrylic spray
paint on a black background.

•The story was written as a final border in ‘bush’ style font.

•Look closely, as each masterpiece has the elements of x-ray drawing, symbolism, pointillism and
stencilling, as well as its own individual & beautifully illustrated story of Australian animals in
the outback.
