Future Dreamers Portraits

During a unit on portraiture, titled Future Dreamers Portraits, Myrtleford P-12 College, Year 6 students were asked to complete an, ‘I will’ statement relating to something they greatly hope to achieve in their future. They then discussed the way their facial expression, composition of the subject and the possibility of props can help to strategically convey a particular mood and tell a story. Finally, they photographed the portraits using a DSLR camera and then carefully edited the photographs to gradually increase the amount of high, medium or low contrast within the photo and highlight the contours and features of the students faces. The images were then printed onto transparency paper and mounted onto an A4 piece of ply wood.

A portrait is a representation of a particular person. A self-portrait is a portrait of the artist by the artist.  Portraiture is a very old art form going back at least to ancient Egypt, where it flourished from about 5,000 years ago.
