Felt Wall Hangings

Term: 2 Year: 2013

Students in grade 6 had the opportunity to try wet felting.

Firstly we talked about the history of felting and looking at some felted items. The students then started laying out warm coloured wool fibres and rubbing with soapy water to create pre-felt squares.

Each student then cut out a shape of a butterfly. These were then laid out on a cool coloured background and made into small banners. After that came the rolling, rinsing and throwing processes.

All the students were very interested in the process and now have a great appreciation of how much work goes into making felt.
