Ceramic Envelopes

Term: 2 Year: 2020

Year 2 students explored the concepts of language and purpose to develop a response to how signs and symbols are used to communicate a part of their How we express ourselves Unit of Inquiry titled Ceramic Envelopes.

The student’s inquiry, Ceramic Envelopes, into how signs and symbols are used in different cultures to communicate language, led to thoughtful questions and discussions about how language can be represented in art.

They were able to express their understanding through their won developments of signs and symbols to make a ceramic envelope and Magiclay emojis in response to both ancient examples and modern-day influences.

Throughout this process students considered the works of Indigenous artists Damien and Yilpi Marks and images of ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics.
