Tribal Masks

Term: 2 Year: 2012

Grade 5's created these masks after being inspired by an exploration of ceremonial/decorative masks from our near neighbours in the Pacific region and especially from Papua New Guinea.

Students built the base from recycled card, also using recycled materials such as rolled newspaper, containers, cylinders etc. to create the features. To give strength and create a natural feel, the masks were covered in squares of hessian dipped in diluted P.V.A. glue.

The masks were then decorated using paints, feathers, shells, beads etc. to create their own unique presence.
