We began with a squirt of food dye in the centre of our page.

Using a straw we blew the food dye up to the top of our page for the branches and then blew it to the
bottom of the page for the roots.

We took a dry paint brush and dipped it into the wet areas of our page and gently dabbed on the foliage at
the ends of the branches.

For the ground we wet our brush and dragged it across our page over the roots as well.

Some children experimented by putting plastic food wrap over the painted area and left it to dry. This gave
the effect of boulders or lines in the soil.

Others experimented by putting a few drops of other colours on the wet ground area.

The children enjoyed this activity and wanted to continue to experiment with different colours and to work
with others in a group to complete a larger picture. They were excited that each tree was so different
but still effective.
