How To:

Toas are the name given to small assembled sculptures originally made from wood, gypsum, ochres and natural
materials.

The indigenous Dyiari people from Lake Eyre, South Australia, were the first people recorded using Toas.

Toas were used as signposts at camp sites; also like good luck charms. Lin Onus' work: "Toas for a
modern age" was the inspiration for these grade 5&6 students.
The aim was to create an individual
toa which told a message about their own life or beliefs.
The toa could be traditional, contemporary,
serious or quirky.
