Thread Creatures

Term: 2 Year: 2017

The Year 4 students at Korowa Anglican Girls’ School studied the work of the Tjanpi artists from central Australia.

They explored the concept of how different animals evolved to adapt to their environment by developing unusual features; such as the elephant’s trunk, a giraffe’s neck and the various strangely combined features of a platypus.

Students then created a brand new creature, combing elements from existing creatures or creating entirely new one. After creating a planning sketch students constructed their creatures using wire, recycled wool and string and fabric scraps.
