Still Life 3D Drawings
Term: 3 Year: 2010
As part of the Drawing learning sequence the Grades 5 and 6 students at Black Hill Primary school
considered the concept of still life to develop three-dimensional drawings of apples and pears.
Students began this piece by focusing on the element of shape and in particular careful observation of the
organic shape of their chosen fruit. Repetition of this shape was then used to create a base structure
and investigate the element of form.
This paper sculpture provided six drawing surfaces on which students explored with the elements of line,
colour (complementary colour), texture, pattern, and tone.
Students experimented with a range of drawing mediums throughout the development of this work and examined
both internal and external views of their fruit.
