Students explored the style of ‘Steampunk’ – a subgenre of science fantasy that incorporates technology and aesthetic designs inspired by 19th-century industrial steam-powered machinery.
Students selected to sketch either an animal or futuristic contraption. They were encouraged to consider the placement of the cogs and gears prior to commencing their sketch.
Central to the learning criteria for this activity was tonal depth, which was achieved through shading – using light and dark pen markings.
