In a Nutshell:

•Brainstorm Spiegeltents and Clowns – This leads to design of a clown and of a Big Top, in the
Visual Diary. Clown designs to show how coils, spirals and balls can be used in the Clown Design.
•Experiment with clay in co-operative groups to build clowns of different styles using coils,
spirals, and balls. Once constructed the clowns are smoothed, to join all sections, then turned over,
to reveal the clown on the underside.
•Children then construct the clown they designed in the
visual diary .
While clowns are going through the drying and firing process. Children draw and
paint their designed Big Top onto box board or Camelot Board.
When dry, the fired clowns are
adhered to the painted Big Tops using PVA Glue
