Soft Toys

Term: 3 Year: 2012

The aim of this project was to create a felted soft toy that used both wet and dry felting techniques.

The students were all given the same basic shape to use as a template for the body, but other than that, the brief was to create something original.

The first stage in the process was to create the shape of the toy.  This was done by wet felting, using wool top and a synthetic fabric stencil.

The next stage was to pad the toys using toy stuffing and then to seal the opening by dry felting over it.

The final stage was to dry felt the details onto each toy.  It was at this stage that each creation developed its own “personality”.

Materials used:

  • Wool Tops
  • Synthetic fabric template
  • Bubble wrap
  • Curtain netting
  • Water bottles, with a hole pierced in the lid and filled with water and a little detergent
  • Felting needles
