Reduction Printmaking
Term: 1 Year: 2011
‘My suburb’
Inspired by a range of maps, students were asked to create a design that related to the street map of an area that
they lived, or their favourite place in the world. They created a simple design for the first print and chose a
complimentary colour scheme, or explored tints and shades made possible by mixing block printing inks. They carved
their simple design and printed it off. For their second print, they carved more complex textures, road
details, trees and other intricate features of the map into their carving block. They printed off their second print
directly ontop of the first and the result was interesting, personal and aesthetic. This task was thoroughly enjoyed
by our students.
