This workshop is perfect for teachers who are new or returning to the art room, or for those who require a refresher. Participants will learn how to develop, implement and assess an F-6 visual arts program inline with the Victorian Curriculum. There will be a focus on using the Backward Design method of planning a program with a focus on using the achievement standards as a base for teaching and assessing for understanding. Some emphasise on linking visual art to inquiry-based learning will be looked at; modelling practices that build independence in your students and intentionally planning units that allow for differentiation. We will explore techniques that help students to critically reflect on their own, and others’, artworks using visual arts language. Participants will be introduced to a range of assessment methods, including practical tips to effectively manage the ongoing assessment of large student cohorts. Participants will apply their learning to develop a unit ‘skeleton’ based on a technique, concept, or artist of their choice – with guidance from the session presenter. A comprehensive handbook with curriculum links, specialist classroom management tips, planning resources, and examples of assessment strategies is included.

This online workshop consists of three online webinar sessions plus all teachers notes and information resources provided digitally in advance by email/download.

A comprehensive handbook with curriculum links, specialist classroom management tips, planning resources, and examples of assessment strategies is included and will be emailed to registered participants for download prior to participating in the online webinar sessions.
