Organic Sculptures

Term: 3 Year: 2012

This Year 7 unit had students looking at natural objects as a starting point for an Artwork.

It began with observational drawing of a variety of pods and shells. Students then abstracted these drawings to develop ideas for a sculpture. Using the pinch pot method of construction they created several pod shapes with interesting textures using a variety of different clays. These were glazed with earthenware glazes which were rubbed back to create a more natural, earthy surface.

Students were provided with a metal rod base to thread their pods on to form these wonderful totem-like sculptures.
