WildBlak Clay Pots with Cassie Leatham Day 1 Session Suitable for: ALL LEVELS About the Workshop In this hands-on workshop session, participants will be engaged in a First Nations Art experience, using natural earthen clays and creating a significant pot. Learn the symbols and fine lines carved into the clay pots which are then painted with natural ochre paints and create a natural paint brush using a feather. This workshop will connect to histories and develop an understanding that it’s ‘not just dots’. Being a Victorian Aboriginal Artist, we tell our stories using traditional symbols and fine lines. We’ll also explore the natural material resource of clay, giving connection to earth and the creation stories Cassie will be telling while facilitating this journey of creative arts. About the Presenter Cassie Leatham is from the Taungurung people from the Kulin Nation. She is an Indigenous artist, master weaver, traditional dancer, bushtukka woman and educator. She is extremely passionate about teaching her skills to both Indigenous and non-Indigenous students of all ages. Her aim is to give participants the opportunity to learn and understand Aboriginal culture and develop knowledge of both historical and contemporary Aboriginal history. In July 2018, Cassie appeared on ABC’s Gardening Australia program, talking to presenter Millie Ross about how she uses indigenous plants in her culturally rich creations.
