White pencil, Oil pastel on black paper

The focus artist we found inspiring was Modigliani. We researched and investigated about his approach to portraits, the tilted heads, long necks, calm and dreamy expressions and moody colours. Then using mirrors, we attempted to sketch ourselves or a friend in a similar style. Once we were happy with our sketch in our sketchbooks we transferred this to A3 black paper with a white pencil then went about colouring the image with heavy oil pastel application. The black outline defined the image.
