BRIEF

Your task is to create a mixed media textile collage using a textile rubbing and a variety of specialty
paper.
Using patterned rubbing plates and Sennelier oil paint sticks, you will create a colourful
patterned rubbing on black poly cotton fabric. Once dry and fixed, you will select specialty paper that
complements your textile rubbing, and create a collage using sections, shapes and patterns from the
paper which will be adhered to the borders of the textile rubbing.

How to tackle the project

1.Select a square of black poly cotton fabric, and select one rubbing plate with a pattern that you like or
find interesting from your experimentation exercise.
2.Using masking tape, secure the fabric to the
rubbing plate.
3.Select the colours you wish to use, and create a textile rubbing using the
Sennelier Oil paint sticks.
4.Remove the fabric from the rubbing plate, spray with fixative, adhere
to a cover paper background and allow to dry for 24 hours.
5.Select patterns, colours, images and
shapes from the variety paper collection and carefully cut out the images, shapes, and symbols you will
use in the collage.
6.Arrange your paper images and shapes around the border of the textile
rubbing, taking care to cover the edges.
7.Once you are happy with your arrangement, carefully glue
the collage section to the cover paper using craft glue.
8.Your mixed media textile collage is now
ready to mount or frame.
