The Exquisite Corpse

In Semester 1, Year 8 students at Ruyton Girls’ School explored the Surrealist movement. They were asked to create absurd, bizarre, strange and hilarious creatures using the Surrealist practice of collaborative image making known as the Exquisite Corpse.

The heads, bodies and legs of these creatures were drawn independently of one another in a series of drawings, with the best creature then decorated with pattern.

Students then carved this creature from lino in such a way that the body parts were interchangeable, and printed their final work in an edition of three.
