We looked at illustrations in two different picture storybooks to see how colours in backgrounds change the mood and atmosphere of a place.

Students then planned what kind of kingdom they would create and chose tissue paper to match. Lots of fine motor skills were developed in tearing the tissue to make an overlapping background, and then cutting out the dwelling. We looked at different colours and shapes of castles, fairy houses and toadstools, to match the background and enhance their ideas.
