The level 4 topic of ‘Learning to Learn’ inspired us to look at Visual Illusions as a focus
for Visual Art.

This lead to looking at the work of artists such as M.C Escher and his use of repeating patterns, and
kaleidoscopes from there.

After exploring the patterns and designs of a kaleidoscope the students were provided with a variety of
materials including: Recycled compact discs (CDs), Shimmer Paint, metallic patterned papers, sequins,
Supertac, and markers. They were simply asked to create and interpretation of a kaleidoscope design.
