‘Hoopla’ textile work

Term: 1 Year: 2019

We began by thinking about the many different characters from Alice in Wonderland, including the objects, scenery, and items the characters use.

The students were asked to decide what they wanted to sew in their hoop. Each student looked at a variety of images where the hoop is used as a frame. They selected fabric, made a paper pattern, and sewed the felt pieces onto the fabric to create a textile artwork. Each student used a variety of stitches, which they practiced before commencing their artwork. Some have used running stitch, backstitch, blanket stitch and French knots.
