Georgia O’Keeffe inspired Flower drawings
Term: 2 Year: 2009
As a preliminary activity observational drawings of Still Life flower arrangements were drawn by the students,
using Uniball pens and Caran d’Ache Neo colour II water soluble crayons.
Using visual resources students looked at and discussed different styles and artists who painted flowers as subject
matter. Some of the artists were Archimboldo, Van Gogh, Tao Chi, Margaret Preston, William Gould, De Heem,
Mignon and Ruysch. They were also shown work by Georgia O’Keeffe which they discussed in detail.
After making a view finder the students focused on a close up view of a single flower. We discussed the use of
line, shape and colour, focusing on thick application of oil pastels and blending of colours to achieve a
sense of depth.
