Flowers Wallhanging
Term: 1 Year: 2011
Students in year 2 studied different types of flowers, analyzing their colours and patterns.
They then did a series of small coloured drawings in their sketchbooks, focusing on colour layers around the
flower centre.
They were introduced to basic stitching-running stitch and made a small sampler to practice on. The students
pinned around their hessian and then sewed the edges, as decoration and to avoid fraying.
They cut circle templates for the flower centre and then pinned and cut the felt. Colours were chosen from their
original drawings. The students selected a combination of plain and patterned materials and cut then into strips.
They used a wooden tool to push the material through the hessian, following around the inner circle shape.
The centres were then decorated, again following their sketch book concepts, using a selection of buttons, bead
and sequins.
