Etchings

Term: 2 Year: 2018

Vincent Van Gogh and his contemporaries became bewitched by Japanese Art. This became known as Japonisme [japonism] (The term is used particularly to refer to the Japanese influence on European art, especially in Impressionism)by looking at the exquisite artworks of Hiroshige and Hokusai. Students will draw parallels between Vincent’s art and the use of colour, composition and style in these impressive prints and how their influence became a hallmark of his style. Students will then create a series of hand coloured prints from their drawing studies. We will produce these using the intaglio method and a printing press.
