Childrens books – Picture books – Storytelling – Creative Writing
Preferred Student Level:
Preschool, Primary, Secondary – Students & Teachers
Corinne talks to students and teachers about the research and writing of picture books, and their value to both children and adults.
Many of her books are true stories based on social history, so they take a long time to produce. My Friend Tertius took ten years! Corinne discusses the processes involved and what it's like to work for so long on a book. Separately, she discusses how Little Dog and the Christmas Wish and One Christmas Eve, came to be part of the Myer Christmas Windows.
To Corinne, the best picture books are those that can be shared, and her philosophy is that in a picture book; every word must earn the right to be there.
Corinne is an award winning author with a passion for picture books, most often true stories – and always about animals.
Her books, published in Australia and internationally, include Queenie One Elephant’s Story, The Dog on the Tuckerbox, Flame Stands Waiting as well as the Hey Baby series and Chasing Shadows.
The best-selling Little Dog and the Christmas Wish was the theme for the 2015 Myer Windows.
Bob the Railway Dog was named a Notable Book in the 2016 Children’s Book Council Book of the Year Awards, and the US version was named an Outstanding Book on the 2017 USBBY OIB Honour list.
In 2016 You Have My Heart, Counting on You and One Christmas Eve (also chosen for the 2016 Myer Christmas Windows), were released.
2017 saw the release of My Friend Tertius in March, and Little Dog and the Summer Holiday in October.
For almost eight years, Corinne (as Corinne King) was the Assistant Regional Adviser (Victoria, Tasmania and South Australia) of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators in Australia.
