Collagraph Prints
Term: 3 Year: 2010
How To:
•The students had been investigating line and pattern.
•They were introduced to collagraph prints.
•The collagraph plates were made by cutting and gluing corrugated cardboard to a firm piece of card.
•The idea was that they begin with some geometric shapes, and cut pieces to fit as they went, leaving
minimum gaps.
•They were encouraged to let the pattern evolve without designing it first, experimenting
with the
directional lines of the corrugations.
•The next step was to proof the prints on newsprint.
•Chine-colle is a process where a printing plate is used to make an image on a collage.
•The students used coloured tissue paper to make a collage.
•A final print was then made over the collage.
•This was quite a long process and challenging at times, but the final prints were very successful,
and the plates and proofs are artworks in themselves.
