Ceramic Faces

Term: 1 Year: 2012

A group of students from grades 3 and 4 worked with artist, Jane Byrne, for two days.
They looked at the work of Italian artist, Giuseppe Arcimboldo.

Their challenge was to:

1.Choose a theme and make a mind map.
2.Design their face.
3.Jane taught them about working with clay and moulds. Most chose to use a mould to make the face and some of the things they put on the face.
4.The pieces were then fired.
5.The pieces were glazed using a hand paint glaze.
6.The pieces were fired a second time.
7.Students did a drawing and wrote a haku poem about their work and then decided how they would present them.
