Candlestick Holders

Term: 4 Year: 2017

Year 5 and 6 students form Anderson’s Creek Primary School manipulated clay and applied a range of skills and techniques to make coils and a slab for the purpose of modelling a candle holder. This artwork was in line with students’ inquiry unit on gold. Candles and candle holders were essential tools of the miner, and selling these were one of the more lucrative professions on the goldfields. Candles often had increments marked on them, indicating the length of time taken to burn and thus providing a sense of time to the miners.
