Beautiful Butterflies

Term: 2 Year: 2012

Integrating with the level 2’s Inquiry Unit on Life Cycles, Grade 2 students created a butterfly.

This was a term project, involving skills in sewing, painting and drawing. Grade 2 students used running stitch to sew on the body and as an extension some students sewed flowers or borders around the hessian. We observed and discussed different types of patterns and colours on butterfly wings. To create the design on the wings, students used a black marker for an outline of shapes then filled with glass enamel paint. Thinking about lines and colours, students built up the design over the top with Posca pens. Pom poms were added as a 3D feature.

The grade 2s loved making their beautiful butterflies.
