‘Australian Flowering Gum’ Oil Pastel Drawings

Term: 4 Year: 2018

Students used a provocation to inspire them – the Australian Flowering Gum.

Discussion was facilitated:
What can you see?
What does it make you think?
What does it make you wonder?
Investigation included the Design Elements of line, colour, texture, shape, space and form. We explored the following using fluro and metallic oil pastels:
What happens to colours when you work on coloured paper as a background surface (instead of white paper)?
What happens to colour when you layer colour-on-colour?

Students were also introduced to the techniques of hatching and crosshatching.
