Andy Warhol Cats

Students in Levels 2 and 3 at Ascot Vale Primary school created Magiclay cat sculptures on felted mats based on Andy Warhol’s love of cats, in particular a cat named Sam. Throughout the term students studied the work of Andy Warhol.

They read many fiction and nonfiction books about Warhol and Pop Art and some groups visited the National Gallery of Victoria Andy Warhol and Ai Wei Wei exhibition. The students particularly enjoyed the pictures story books by Andy’s nephew James Warhola. After reading ‘Uncle Andy’s Cats’, students sketched their own cat in the style of Andy’s.

They were to be colourful and quirky. Student’s used these sketches to create their 3D model.
