ACMI Reopening in 2021

Term: 1 Year: 2021

In 2019 ACMI, Melbourne and Australia’s museum of screen culture, embarked on a $40 million redevelopment project and are now due to reopen and unveil the new ACMI in early 2021.

The vision of ACMI’s redevelopment was to reimagine the museum and create a more open and welcoming environment, enhance learning spaces and showcase innovations in moving image technology.

The heart of the new ACMI will be The Story of the Moving Image, a signature exhibition that takes audiences on an immersive journey into the past, present and future of the moving image through interactive experiences, amazing objects and captivating stories. Like its predecessor, Screen Worlds, this exhibition will be free for school groups and members of the public.

ACMI will have not only a refurbished building and new exhibition, but also new learning spaces. In the Gandel Digital Future Labs, students and teachers will access the technology and creative tools to create their own moving image works.

Animation has always played a huge part in ACMI Education’s learning resources and teacher and student programs, and that won’t change. Zart Art and ACMI are teaming up for online and onsite teacher animation workshops throughout 2021.
