3D Sea-Creatures Inspired by Eric Carle & Marimekko

Term: 4 Year: 2018

School-wide Theme – Diversity … in the animal kingdom.

SArt students studied sea-creatures over a three-week period to create 3D starfish, sea-horses, turtles, sting-ray and fish. They read books with our librarian and me about The Rainbow Fish, Jonah and the Whale, and Mister Sea-Horse. They studied the artwork of Eric Carle and design elements of the Finnish textile company Marimekko and used these as their inspiration to create striking pattern over strong and vibrant colour.

Vocabulary used in art lessons included trace, cut, primary colours – red, blue, yellow, secondary colours – purple, orange, green, mixing, pattern, repeat, form, shape.
