Floral Star

Materials

As classic as a Christmas tree, a poinsettia’s red star shaped leaves makes it an easily recognizable symbol of the festive season. This take on a Christmas classic will brighten displays whilst exploring radial symmetry and paper skills.

Option 1:

Step 1. Cut a star shape from a sheet of Coloured Cardboard.

Step 2. Cut out five leaf shapes from a sheet of Arty Pattern Paper.

Step 3. Arrange the leaves on top of the star so that the ends overlap at the centre to create a patterned star. Glue the leaves in place.

Step 4. Cut five small leaf shapes from left-over cardboard. Glue the leaves onto the patterned star in a smaller star arrangement.

Option 2:

Step 1. Cut a star shape from a sheet of Coloured Cardboard.

Step 2. Trace the star onto a sheet of Arty Pattern Paper. Draw a star inside the traced line to make a slightly smaller star. Cut out the smaller star and glue it onto the cardboard star.

Step 3. Cut out five leaf shapes from the cardboard and five slightly smaller leaf shapes from the patterned paper. Glue the patterned leaves onto the cardboard leaves.

Step 4. Glue the leaf shapes to the back of the star so that they face up and are positioned in between the points of the star.

Step 5. Cut five small leaf shapes from the left-over cardboard. Glue these on top of the patterned star in a star arrangement.
