African Birds

African birds – response to book ‘Natemba’ by Annette Lodge

This unit was aligned with the unit of inquiry in the class room – How We Express Ourselves – Story telling. We focused on the African story ‘Natemba’ by Annette Lodge and observed and discussed the birds in the imagery. To extend and explore our skills we attempted painting with household bleach using long stick swabs onto coloured paper. Then we embellished our birds with coloured pencil pattern work, glitter glue and feathers. To finish the piece and to reinforce the African traditional patterns we learned how to fold paper, cut out shapes and collage these into patterns on our frames.
