Performing Arts Costumes and Hats

Explore the wonderment of colour and glitz in creating hats for the circus or other performing art productions. Create weird and wonderful, out there wearable shoes. If you have a pair of old shoes you want to reinvent bring them along. Costumes made from Tyvek and Calico will be decorated with a multitude of media. To complete the vision, a mask will be made to enhance the costume, hat and shoes.

Learn this new technique of using recycled fabric to create weatherproof sculptures for the school grounds. Use wire, polystyrene, foil and fabric to produce a sculpture. This product hardens and weatherproofs fabric to create outdoor art, but due to its expense it would suit only group or specially funded projects for everlasting external art forms.

Armature Wire, Chicken Wire, Florist Wire, Florist Wire Rainbow, Metallic Wire Cord, Craft Aluminium Wire and Wireform Mesh. What are the possibilities of this wonderful material in the context of the classroom and in the hands of our students? We will draw with it, sculpt and model with it. We will shine light through it. Stand it up and lay it flat. We will decorate it and we will even wear it. Alberto Giacometti’s sculptures will be a source for inspiration and discussion. The potential of wire will become clear to us as we become literate in this medium. This workshop will spark amazing ideas and amazing art work will come of it.

Zart Art is pleased to offer another workshop in Circus Skills for Teachers. You already juggle timetables, curriculum, students and a host of other things as a teacher – so learning to juggle objects should be a piece of cake. Led by entertainer and former Visual and Performing Arts teacher, Phil Melgaard, this hands-on workshop introduces teachers to an exciting range of circus skills designed to build the confidence necessary to introduce a circus program or performance in your school. This Workshop blends fun activities with serious learning in a supportive and highly entertaining workshop atmosphere with a strong emphasis on safety.

Indigenous Art

Join Jungala Kriss in this day of painting exploration and knowledge as he shares his techniques and insights into his Art and culture. Jungala will begin the day with an introductory talk about his culture to give the participants an understanding essential to teaching and appreciating Indigenous art. Participants will paint their interpretation of a topical perspective in their life using symbols which will tell their story. Jungala is a painter in Alice Springs. Some of his paintings are made up of traditional images and stories told to him by senior members of his family. Other pieces are more contemporary involving modern objects like mountain bikes, cars and fashion.

Animals: the Australian Art Pack

The way Australian Artists have portrayed animals has changed with history and interpretation. Each work presented in The Australian Art Pack -Animals is unique and will be the starting point for discussion, deeper thinking and inspiration for our student’s own art making. Participants will be given the opportunity to explore and experiment with many different art materials and art making techniques that will support their own delivery of a quality art program back in their schools. As we create fabulous “animal” art we will look at the Victorian Essential Learning Standards and consider Assessment Tasks. This workshop will be a great support for teachers planning and implementing art in their classroom and in the school art room.

Egyptian Studies

Much has been written about the ancient Egyptians and much will be written and rewritten in the future as archaeological digs shed more light on them. Nonetheless they continue to be a fascinating study and a wonderful example of human endeavour. This workshop will take participants on a journey through Egypt as they create magnificent artefacts from a multitude of media. From King Tut’s mask to dazzling jewellery, this unit of work will inspire students to want to find out more about this fascinating history.
