Heide was a home where creative people could come together to share ideas and produce creative works. The passionate artists who circled around Heide during the 1930s became known as the “Angry Penguins” and the works they produced changed art in Australia forever. In this session we will use the images presented in the Angry Penguins Art Pack to explore questioning techniques to inspire discussion and deeper thinking to develop an understanding of the works in response to the time, place and social issues. We will explore art making that relates to our own student’s time, place and the issues that concern them. The workshop will be presented in line with the Victorian Essential Learning Standard. We will consider documentation of the student’s planning, effective assessment tools and strategies that support student’s personal and interpersonal learning.

Do you know what your students will require for their folio, and what they might expect at their interview for entry into Visual or Applied Arts Courses? Will their VCE Graphics or Studio Arts folio contain enough of the kind of work to set them apart? With a limited number of places and an over supply of applicants, what can you do to better prepare your students for that crucial interview?
How will their study alter? How will they motivate and organize themselves? What can you do to boost their confidence and give them the edge they will need?
This workshop aims to provide useful information, and address the many issues faced by the student preparing a folio for entry into a visual or applied arts course. Dawna has been on interview panels, and has taught at TAFE level for the past twenty-two years.
Please bring along samples of students' work on the day.

The workshop will cover the following areas:
• The use of rubrics assessment model when assessing individual works of art, making “on balance” judgments and engaging students in this process.
• The application of Assessment Moderation in schools to assist teachers in a common understanding of VELS standards and progression points.

VELS Level 5
